The railway sector is of particular importance for German-Uzbek cooperation, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany told Trend.

According to the ministry, since 2013, the German railway Deutsche Bahn Group and its subsidiary DB Engineering & Consulting have been cooperating with Uzbekistan Railways JSC, the national railway company of Uzbekistan, on many projects.

It is reported that Deutsche Bahn Group participated in such projects as the electrification of the Karshi-Termez line (2013–2019) and the construction of a 19.2 kilometers long tunnel on the Kamchik pass (2013–2017).

In addition, DB Engineering & Consulting participated in projects to modernize the metro in the capital of Uzbekistan from 2019 to 2021.

The ministry also stressed that given the fact that Uzbekistan is a landlocked country, rail transport is of particular importance for German-Uzbek cooperation.

"Uzbekistan has a rich heritage in the field of communication between Europe and Asia. That is why Deutsche Bahn Group has been cooperating with the railways of Uzbekistan for a very long time," the ministry said.

Deutsche Bahn Group (DB Group) is a leading provider of mobility and logistics services with a clear focus on rail transport in Germany. DB Group includes an integrated rail system and DB Schenker and DB Arriva, two large international subsidiaries. DB Schenker is the fourth-largest logistics service provider in the world. The company operates the largest transport network in Europe. In 2019, its gross income amounted to $19.4 billion.
