BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9

By Fatima Zulfigar - Trend:

A working group on eTIR has been established under the Turkic Council, head of the press and PR department of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Natig Akhundov told Trend.

"Annex 11 to the 1975 Customs Transit Convention, which creates the legal framework for the eTIR procedure, entered into force on May 25, 2021," Akhundov added. "The State Customs Committee took part in this event as one of the few invited customs administrations."

"The State Customs Committee, through the support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), carried out the work on technical regulation, ensured the connection of the e-information system of the state committee with the eTIR international system to create conditions for the application of the procedures established upon Appendix 11," head of the department said.

"At the next stage, the development of the project will include the process of organizing the first digital transit transportation to the neighboring countries based on the transit corridor concept," Akhundov said. "The process of organizing eTIR transportation within various regional and international organizations is one of the main issues on the agenda."

"An eTIR working group has already been created within the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states," the head of the department said. "Azerbaijan is located in the center of the Middle Corridor and is closely involved in the supply process along with it. In general, we expressed our readiness to actively implement the eTIR procedure in trade corridors passing through our country."

"This factor increases the attractiveness of the customs territory of Azerbaijan for carriers, consignees and shippers, who, in accordance with the trends of developing the modern trade operations, prefer to use digital transport processes," Akhundov said.
