Iran is planned to lay or develop a 100 km length of roads in the West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director General of West Azerbaijan Road and Urban Planning Department Mohsen Hamzalu told IRNA, Trend reports.

Hamzalu said that a part of the West Corridor in the West Azerbaijan Province, which is connecting the Bazargan border terminal with the Imam Khomeini port will be improved.

“In addition, the Urmia-Sero international highway will be put into operation by the end of 6th month of the current Iranian year (September 22, 2021),” he added.

The director general noted that the West Azerbaijan Province, located on the border with 3 countries, is Iran's gateway to Europe.

Hamzalu stressed that 103 km of highways and 78 km of trunk roads were built in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).

Reportedly, Iran's West Azerbaijan Province is located on the border with Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iraq. The total length of roads in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province is 12,000 kilometers.
