Iran has operated shipping projects in the Caspian Sea, Managing Director of Khazar Shipping Lines Company Davood Tafti told Trend in an interview.

"The construction and development of Amirabad Port's building are completed based on commercial standards in the current year and the building is being operated," he said.

Khazar Shipping Lines Company's agenda is to boost container transportation in Iran's northern ports and has doubled the number of container transportation in the Caspian Sea compared to the last Iranian year and demands for container transportation are continuing to rise.

"Statistics show transportation of refrigerated cargo ships has increased and Khazar Shipping Lines Company has updated its software system to track containers," Tafti indicated.

The company has repaired 12 ships and renovated 4 vessels in the current Iranian year. It has corresponded with the Port and Maritime Organization and related institutes to increase the longevity of the national fleet.

According to Tafti, Iran's membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization led to a cooperation contract between Iran and Kazakhstan and regular cargo transportation in which two container ships transport cargo from the Caspian Port in Iran to Aktau in Kazakhstan every week.

The China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor is part of the International North-South Transportation Corridor and the first logistics solution for speedy cargo delivery from the East China coast to the markets of the Persian Gulf.

Auto and container transit via INSTC route through India, Russia, and Kazakhstan has increased 250 percent.
