The geographical peculiarities of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, their location between the biggest economic centers of Europe and Asia create real conditions to fully use the existing transport network between the countries, Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev said during a meeting with a delegation headed by Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund JSC Almassadam Satkaliyev, who is on a visit to Baku, Trend reports.
The minister said that the completion of the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was an additional impetus for the development of the route.
“As a result, the time for the transportation of goods from China to Turkey through Kazakhstan decreased up to 12 days,” Satkaliyev added. “Moreover, the discussions on optimizing the transport tariffs along the corridor, synchronizing the customs procedures to increase the cargo transportation volume along the international transport corridors passing through the countries were held during the meeting.”
The minister added that the transport relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are developing upon the positive trends.
“The efficiency of the corridor, the regularity of transportation, the optimization of tariffs and in particular, the simplification and harmonization of regulating the customs procedures for transit cargo by the countries which are located along the corridor are important to transit cargo via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in terms of competition, which is created by the neighboring transit corridors,” Nabiyev said.
The ongoing events in the region and the geopolitical situation have created a new reality, which requires considering a new framework for cooperation and establishing the transit and transport relations.
The need of establishing the common directions for the creation of a joint company and the implementation of transport and logistics activity, the simplification of customs procedures within the project to create a unified transport system was also emphasized.
