Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) plans to present the concept of the vessel, which should be operated in the Caspian Sea at lower fees, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission Asset Asavbayev told Trend.

TRACECA is conducting research work in the field of organizing ferry traffic in the Caspian Sea, he noted.

"Ferry traffic has been established today between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, also between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. In the context of TRACECA (Azerbaijan - Kazakhstan), ferry transportation should be cheaper and more competitive and for this purpose, we are conducting serious research. We intend presenting based on research results, the concept of a vessel that should be operated in the Caspian Sea has a large capacity and carry out transportation at lower fees," Asavbayev said.

The fee amounting to $1,200 for the transportation of a container by road is very expensive, he noted.

The freight of one container by sea will cost $460, he added.

"We are conducting investigations where we take into account environmental aspects, the possibilities of ports in the sphere of transshipment. This activity is planned to be completed in the near future and its results will be presented to the TRACECA member countries," the Secretary General added.
