BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 19. A report from the Azerbaijani International Heydar Aliyev airport published this week touched upon the growth of a total number of passengers served at Azerbaijan's international airports in February 2022, Trend reports.

This figure amounted to 255,000, which is 2.8 times more than in February last year.

In general, since the beginning of the year, passenger traffic at all airports amounted to 546,000 people, of which 80 percent accounted for the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. The airport’s base air carriers - Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Buta Airways - transported 167,000 and 52,000 people, which is 38 percent and 12 percent of the share of passenger traffic, respectively.

Besides, it was reported in the outgoing week that AZAL will start operating direct flights to the capital of Uzbekistan from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in April. From April 5, Buta Airways low-cost airline will start operating regular flights en route Baku-Aktau (Kazakhstan)-Baku.

According to another report of this week, the Turkish Pegasus Airlines low-cost airline and the Egyptian Air Cairo airline launched regular flights to Azerbaijan.

Pegasus Airlines has already started operating flights to Azerbaijan on the Istanbul-Ganja-Istanbul route, and Air Cairo - on the Sharm el-Sheikh-Baku-Sharm el-Sheikh route.
