Iranian truckers still waiting for visa to enter Pakistan - official

TEHRAN, Iran, June 6. Iranian truckers are still waiting for visas to enter Pakistan, but there has not been any change over the issue, Mahmoud Tohidast the chairman of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce told Trend.

"Iranian trucks have been struggling to travel to the neighboring country which is due to profits of Pakistani drivers," he said.

Tohidast pointed out that Pakistan does not issue visas to Iranian drivers, forcing them to unload their cargo at the border and hand it over to Pakistani truckers.

According to the official, the issue is to be discussed at the upcoming 9th Joint Committee on Border Trade (JCBT) meeting in Zahedan.

Tohidast went on to say that Iran's private sector is currently exporting gas to Pakistan by tankers and trucks and the country is expected to import rice from Pakistan if bans on rice import are lifted.

Iran is in negotiation with Pakistan to launch a barter system but the private sector has not been successful in import of commodities in return for Iran's oil export to Pakistan.

The official has noted the need to upgrade trade relations between the countries and governments facilitating financial systems for the transaction.
