BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. The transit of goods through Iran increased by 39 percent, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, a total of 2.56 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in two months.

The customs official added that 811,000 tons of goods were transited through Shahid Rajaee Port, 380,000 tons through Parvizkhan customs, 264,000 tons through Bashmaq customs, and 220,000 tons through Sarakhs customs and 203,000 tons through Bazargan customs.

“In addition, 108,000 tons of goods were transited through Bilasuvar customs, 95,000 tons through Jolfa customs, 72,000 tons through Lotfabad customs, 71,000 tons through Mirjaveh customs and 63,000 tons through Lengeh customs,” he said.

Latifi noted that after a 7-year decline in transit of goods through Iran, transit exceeded 12.6 million tons in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). This is an increase of 68 compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).

The spokesman emphasized that as a result of the increase both last year and during two months of the current year, the transit of goods through Iran is expected to exceed 15 million tons this year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), which will be a record figure.
