BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9. Azerbaijan plays a key role in cargo transportation from China to Europe and in the opposite direction within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar said this week, Trend reports.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, which have favorable geographical location, can play a leading role in promoting international cargo transportation between Europe and Asia.

According to Hasanov, in order to contribute to promotion of East-West, North-South and South-West international transport corridors, Azerbaijan is taking systemic and intensive measures to develop its transport infrastructure.

The ambassador also said that the volume of cargo transportation on TITR, which is a part of the East-West international transport corridor, is growing, and amid the current geopolitical situation, joint efforts of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria in promoting the transportation of part of these cargoes through the territories of the countries are mutually beneficial.

Besides, this week Deputy Head of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan Akramjon Nematov said that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are important locomotives for regional cooperation and the Port of Baku is playing the role of a trans-regional logistics hub.

Meanwhile, it was noted that the partnership between the ports and logistics centers of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will greatly contribute to creating new transport and logistics routes in the region.

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan said this week that it will speed up the process of crossing the border with Russia at the Khanoba checkpoint.
