Line C of the Central Asia-China gas pipeline has been commissioned, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said.

Line C is primarily designed to deliver the natural gas from Turkmenistan.

Line C has been laid parallel to Line A and Line B and its total length reaches 1,830 kilometers, the CNPC said.

The design capacity of Line C is 25 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Some 10 billion cubic meters of this volume will be delivered from Turkmenistan, 10 billion - from Uzbekistan and five billion - from Kazakhstan.

Line C starts on the Turkmen-Uzbek border, runs through Kazakhstan and ends in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China and further connects to China's West-East gas pipeline, the CNPC said.

The construction of Line C began in September 2012.

The China National Petroleum Corporation said that currently, up to seven billion cubic meters of gas is transported via Line C per year and it is possible to increase this volume to 25 billion cubic meters per year by 2015.

The total capacity of the Central Asia-China gas pipeline will increase to 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year by late 2015.

A and B lines of the pipeline were commissioned in late 2009 and in October, 2010, respectively.

"These two lines connect to the second line of China's West-East gas pipeline and around 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas is transported from Turkmenistan to China via these lines per year," the CNPC said.

The CNPC began to purchase gas from Central Asia in 2009 after commissioning the first two lines of the gas pipeline. Turkmenistan and China have signed an agreement on increasing the supply volume to 65 billion cubic meters of gas by 2020. The fourth, Line D that will run through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, is being constructed for this purpose.
