The number of flights over the territory of Kazakhstan increased by 9.7 percent in January-September 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 and amounted to 183,000.

First deputy general director of Kazakh Air Traffic Control Agency Faat Bogdashkin announced about this at a meeting with the working group of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on the development of air traffic service routes in the eastern part of the European region, including Central Asian countries.

"During the first nine months of 2017, we serviced 183,000 flights, while the growth of air traffic compared to the corresponding period of 2016 was 9.7%. The growth of transit traffic through airspace was 5.2%," he said, further adding that the growth is linked with the holding of the specialized exhibition Expo-2017 and many other international forums and events in Kazakhstan.

Bogdashkin further voiced hope that this indicator will grow, as Astana will become an international financial center and in the future - a financial hub for the entire Central Asian region, which will promote the development of international air services.

"In 2016, we served about 230,000 flights. More than 600 aircraft are controlled daily. The basis of traffic is made up by transit flights in the upper airspace, the share of which in the total volume is more than 70%, " he said.

Data of the Kazakh Air Traffic Control Agency shows that over the territory of Kazakhstan currently pass 92 air routes with the length of more than 84,000 kilometers and 73 air corridors pass on the border with neighboring countries.
