Kazakhstan sees rise in production of fertilizers

Some 302,300 tons (an increase of 6 percent compared to last year) of nitrogen and 130,700 tons (an increase of 76.4 percent compared to last year) of phosphoric mineral fertilizers were produced in Kazakhstan in January-October 2017, Kazakh Energy Prom reported.

More than 90 percent of nitrogen fertilizers are produced in Mangistau region (27,000 tons). KazAzot, the giant of the chemical industry, operates in this region.

Almost 90 percent of phosphate fertilizers or117.4 00 tons were provided by Zhambyl regiom, where Kazphosphate operates.

Steady growth was observed in the long-term dynamics in the production of nitrogen fertilizers. Over the past year, the volume of production reached 348,500 tons (an increase of 12 percent). The indicator of 2015 exceeded the figure of 2014 by 10.2 percent.

The production of phosphate fertilizers in 2016, on the contrary, decreased slightly (0.5 percent by the end of the year compared to the figure of 2015). Then the largest plant in the industry, Kazfosfat, was under reconstruction and modernization.

During 10 months of 2017, Kazakh producers provided 57.8 percent of the demand for nitrogen fertilizers, and 100 percent - for phosphate fertilizers.

Earlier, the general director of Kazfosfat LLP Mukash Iskandirov said that in 2017 the company produced 300,000 tons of phosphate mineral fertilizers, of which 108,000 tons were sold on the domestic market.

Some 200,000 tons were exported to China, Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Uruguay and Argentina. Work is under way to reach the markets of Romania, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Iran.

Next year, the reconstructed plant plans to increase production to 500,000 tons of phosphate mineral fertilizers.
