Kazakhstan, Astana, September 1 / Trend , K.Konirova /

Kazakhstan calls for the establishment of a stable balance of arms of Caspian littoral states, an official of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev told Trend .

"Taking into account the current geopolitical situation, in which the area of responsibility of the sides in the Caspian Sea has not been determined yet, Kazakhstan calls for the establishment of a stable balance of arms of the Caspian Sea states, the implementation of military establishment within reasonable sufficiency and control over the amount of arms agreed by the sides," said Ashikbayev, commenting on the recent statement by the President of Turkmenistan to establish a naval base on the Caspian Sea.

Ashikbayev noted that yet Kazakhstan has not received any official information about the plans of the Turkmen side to, in a short time, create a naval base on the Caspian Sea.

"In order to strengthen security and stability in the Caspian Sea, prevent any illegal activities in the sea and over its airspace, Kazakhstan considers it necessary to establish cooperation not only between the naval forces of the littoral states, but also the structures of the border, customs, environmental services," said official of the Foreign Ministry.

He remembered that in accordance with the agreements of the Tehran Summit of Heads of Caspian States in 2007, the sides develop a draft agreement on cooperation in the sphere of security in the Caspian Sea through the border service, customs and interior departments.

"This agreement should regulate the cooperation of Caspian states in all spheres related to security and law enforcement in the Caspian Sea (combating terrorism, extremism, organized criminality, illegal migration, drug and weapons trafficking, reacting to emergency situations)," said Ashikbayev.

He said that the coordination of work on the development of the draft agreement was trusted on Azerbaijan.
