Kanat Saudabayev: Astana backs Japan's proposal on reforming UN

Astana backs Japan's proposal concerning reforming the UN, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev said it at the meeting with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Katsuo Okada in Astana on Monday, Kazinform reported.

"We firmly and consistently support Japan's proposals on necessity of reforming the UN and its intention to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council", K. Saudabayev said at a briefing following the talks.

K. Saudabayev considers that Japan's membership in the UN Security Council meets the country's potential and role it plays on the world arena.

"Japan is an observer country in the CICA. We hope it will join the members of the Organization soon. We also hope for Japan's support in accession of Kazakhstan to ASEAN structures", the Minister concluded.
