Members of the Majlis (Lower House) of the Kazakh Parliament have today appealed to President Nursultan Nazarbayev to make a decision to dissolve the Lower House.

MP Nurtai Sabilyanov read out the address to the president. The document was undersigned by 53 MPs.

The current composition of the Majilis operates since August 2007. According to the Constitution, the following elections will be held in August 2012.

Sabilyanov said the Kazakh society now actively discusses the need for early parliamentary elections. Sabilyanov voiced some arguments in favor of an early dissolution and new elections. One of them is a new wave of financial crisis, which is expected in 2012. Therefore, it is important that Kazakhstan passed the electoral cycle prior to this.

He said it will allow the state agencies to focus on carrying out anti-crisis measures.

Based on the law, the next parliament should be formed from at least two political parties. "It is important to realize this mechanism," he said. The elections to local legislatures also should be held in 2012.

"It is advisable to combine them and reduce the budget costs for the elections," he said.
