Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission has registered the first group of observers from foreign countries and international organizations to Majilis (the lower chamber of Kazakh Parliament) and Maslikhats (local representative body) elections, the CEC reported on Dec.12.

"A total of 31 observers were accredited based on introduction of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including 30 OSCE/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights observers and one CIS observer," the CEC said.

The elections to Majilis in Kazakhstan will be held on January 15-16. Candidates from party lists (98 members) will be elected on the first day, candidates from the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan (9 members) will be elected on the second day.

According to the elections legislation, at least two parties should have seats in Parliament's Majilis.

The elections to Maslikhats in Kazakhstan will be held on January 15.
