Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has left today for Aktau city, the center of Mangistau region, where the mass riots took place earlier, Secretary for Strategic Development of Nur Otan Party Yerlan Karin wrote on his official Twitter page

According to Karin, Nursultan Nazarbayev flew off to Aktau to get familiar with the situation in the region.

Unrest occurred in Zhanaozen city of Mangistau region on Dec. 16 during which 15 people were killed and roughly 100 were wounded. Buildings and cars were burned, property of individuals and legal entities were destructed. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency on December 17. Attorney General noted that the situation in the city Zhanaozen is gradually returning to normal.

Group of persons blocked passenger trains Mangyshlak-Aktobe at the railway station Shetpe located in the Mangistau region on December 17.A group of people who blocked traffic supported unrest participants in Zhanaozen. Normal operation of transport was disrupted as a result of blocking the railroad tracks. There was a long delay of seven passenger trains and nine freight trains, one person was killed and roughly 10 were injured.

Unrest has been observed in the center of Mangistau region - Aktau since Dec. 16.
A special governmental commission on Zhanaozen was created following the incidents. The commission should determine the amount of damage and to take swift action for solving social and economic, humanitarian and other problems that occurred as a result of riots in the city of Zhanaozen.
