Elections in Kazakhstan were open, transparent and competitive and allowed the free will of the country's citizens to take place, the CIS Observation Mission head Vladimir Garkun told journalists on Monday.
He said the CIS Observation Mission positively assessed the Kazakh CEC's activity during the parliamentary elections. All citizens were given an opportunity to express their opinion.
"Voting was quietly held with the participation of local and international observers and media outlets. Those who failed to vote have had absentee ballots," Mr Garkun said. Additionally all candidates were given equal opportunity to campaign.
"According to preliminary data, it looks as if three parties will enter parliament, indicating the establishment of a multi-party parliament. Thus, the elections demonstrate the democratisation of Kazakh society," Mr Garkun said.
Kazakh parliamentary elections were held on Jan.15. According to preliminary data of the Kazakh CEC, the ruling party Nur Otan received 80.74 per cent of the votes, Ak Zhol - 7.46 per cent, while the Communist Party - 7.2 per cent in the elections of members of the Kazakh Majilis.
