The first session of the Kazakh parliament of fifth convocation will be held in Astana on Jan.20, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev's decree says.

"President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree "On convening the first session of the Kazakh Parliament of the fifth convocation", which was enacted to convene the first session of parliament in Astana at 10:00 on Jan.20," Presidential press service reported.

In accordance with the legislation, issues on confidence in government will be included in the agenda of the parliament's first session.

If the Majilis (lower house) expresses its confidence, the government will continue to fulfill its duties, moreover, the president can also terminate government's powers. Adoption of Prime Minister's resignation means the termination of powers of the whole government.

On Jan. 15, Kazakhstan held parliamentary elections, as a result of which three parties - "Nur Otan", "Ak Zhol" and the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan joined the Majilis.
