Kazakhstan to adopt new version of law On State Border

Kazakhstan will adopt a new version of the law On State border, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Majilis (parliament) of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev told Trend.

"In a short time the Majilis will receive the draft law On State Border in the new edition," Ashimbayev said.

He said the lower house of parliament will also receive draft law "On War on Terrorism."

"In light of recent developments the country's laws will be amended to strengthen the national security of Kazakhstan," he said.

In late May, bodies of 14 border guards and huntsman were found at the Arkankergen border post. Law enforcement authorities say sole survivor, soldier-conscript Vladislav Chelakh, 19, confessed to the murder of colleagues. He was arrested and is currently under investigation. In late July, Chelakh repudiated his previous testimony, claiming that he had given it under psychological pressure. The investigation of the case has been extended. According to counsels of Chelakh, 10 more criminal cases of desertion and theft of property were filed against him.
