Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Korean President Lee Myung-bak will attend on Friday September 13 at the ceremony of the construction of the first module of the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant by videoconference format from Astana - settlement Ulken (BTPS), the press service of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Kazakhstan reported.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Korean President Lee Myung-bak will attend on Friday September 13 at the ceremony of the construction of the first module of the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant by videoconference format from Astana - settlement Ulken (BTPS), the press service of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Kazakhstan reported.

"Need for the construction of the cogeneration justified by the growth of consumption and consequently power shortages in the southern zone of Kazakhstan, where live 40% of the population of the country" - said in a statement.

Earlier, in his address to the people of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said: "In order to solve the problems of energy shortage and the liberation of the southern regions of volatility instruct to ensure to Government starting of construction of the first module of the Balkhash thermal power 1320 MW, cost $ 2.3 billion in this year. This is very important. Rabidly developed southern region has a deficit of electricity. We should not depend on anyone. This question counts for a lot. All questions of Balkhash thermal power plant are resolved. It is necessary to speed up and begin this work "

Currently construction of new production facilities in Almaty, Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions are booming.

The Project will:
- To ease tension with the supply of electricity and increase the competitiveness in the industrial and commercial sectors;
- To create new highly skilled jobs in the cogeneration ( 3.5 thousand jobs during construction, 900 jobs - entering the station) and mining companies;
- To create new jobs in the region, production capacity building and other materials, have a positive impact on employment and income of population;
- To raise the reliability and quality of electricity supply, energy security, and much more other.
