A "Green District" will be created to hold EXPO-2017, Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the meeting in Akorda dedicated to the results of 2012 and tasks for Kazakhstan-2050 strategy implementation.
"It is necessary for Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Astana Mayor's Office to work out and submit a pilot construction project for the funding of the "Green Disrict" by July 1. "EXPO-2017 will be there."
He said that Astana national company and Mayor's Office must conduct an international contest in February to develop a master plan for the architectural design of the complex.
"It is necessary to develop a program of Astana's re-branding and organize professional integrated marketing campaign," the president said. "I ordered the Environment Ministry to develop a draft concept for holding EXPO and to submit it for approval to the Commission no later than the second quarter."
The capital of Kazakhstan was chosen as a venue for EXPO-2017 international exhibition on Nov. 22, 2012.
