Kazakh and Turkmen Presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the opening ceremony of the Bolashak- Serhetyaka transborder rail section on Saturday, Kazinform reported.
The Bolashak-Serhetyaka section is the shortest railway link between the two countries.
As was announced at the meeting of Kazakh and Turkmen presidents, grain, oil and oil products constitute the main part of cargo to be shipped through this section. Its capacity will hit 10 million tons per year.
This section is a part of the transnational rail corridor, which will connect Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran and allow the delivery of different goods to the Persian Gulf region.
According to the existing agreements between the three countries, the project is currently at the final stage of implementation.
