The transport sector share in the country's GDP has amounted to 7.5 percent in Kazakhstan for the last five years, Kazakh Minister of Transport and Communications Jenis Kasymbek said at the ninth International Conference on Transport and Transit Potential "TransEurasia 2014" on May 23.

The transport sector share in the country's GDP has amounted to 7.5 percent in Kazakhstan for the last five years, Kazakh Minister of Transport and Communications Jenis Kasymbek said at the ninth International Conference on Transport and Transit Potential "TransEurasia 2014" on May 23.

"Some $20.3 billion (roads - $ 10.2 billion, trains - $ 9.3 billion) have been invested in the development of the Kazakh transport and communication complex for five years," he said.

The minister said that loans from international financial institutions in the amount of $ 5.4 billion (in road sphere) were drawn in the transport sector during this period. The turnover of all types of cargo transport, as well as the volume of transported goods increased by 70 percent.

The minister stressed that the volume of transported goods in 2013 amounted to 3.28 billion tons (in 2012 - 1.94 billion tons).

The minister said that some 1,700 km of railways were built and 19,000 kilometers of roads were reconstructed in 2009-2013.
