By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

Kazakhstan has harvested more than one million tons of grain, said the press-service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

"As of August 19, 2014, farmers harvested more than 943 000 hectares of wheat, ground more than one million tonnes of grain with a yield of 11.6 tonnes per hectare, which is four tonnes per hectare less than the same period of last year", says the statement.

"The lowest yield is noted in Aktobe (4.1 tonnes per hectare) and Zhambyl provinces (8.1 tonnes per hectare) due to dry weather conditions during the growing season of crops", the statement reads.

This year the level of yield of grain crops in Kazakhstan is predicted on historical averages, which is about 11 quintals per hectare. In general, the predicted gross grain harvest of this year will be about 17 million tonnes in bunker weight.

"Today there are 210 grain storage centers with a total storage capacity of about 13.9 million tonnes in the republic", the statement also says. "Moreover, farmers have capacities which allow to store 11 million tonnes of grain and thus, the total capacity for grain storage available is 24.9 million tonnes", the statement concludes.

At present, grain storage centers of Kazakhstan complete the work on the material and technical base preparation for the new crop grain reception.

In particular, as of August 19, 153 grain storage centers have been tested (73 percent of the total), of which 92 were declared ready to receive the harvest, says the statement.
The statement also says that some 61 grain storage centers failed the inspection for compliance with the qualification requirements for various reasons.

Approximately 45,000 combine harvesters, 156.2 000 tractors, 15 000 reapers and 46.8 000 trucks will be engaged in harvest collecting campaign in 2014 in Kazakhstan.
