Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel Jan. 9.
During the talks, President Nazarbayev and Chancellor Merkel discussed boosting the bilateral economic relations, the press service of Akorda (Kazakh presidential palace) said Jan. 9.
The parties also mulled the measures on resolution of the situation in the east of Ukraine as part of a possible meeting of the heads of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France in Astana in the near future.
The two leaders stressed the need for strict implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties involved, which will facilitate to a rapid peaceful settlement and confidence-building.
The sides also pointed out an active and constructive political dialogue between the two countries, and the importance of practical implementation of the Kazakh-German intergovernmental agreement on partnership in raw materials, industrial and technological sectors, signed in February 2012.
Aside from that, the meeting discussed a number of aspects of expanding the innovative investment cooperation and preparation for the international exhibition EXPO-2017, to be held in Astana.
