In 2014, Kazakhstan collected 17.162 million metric tons of cereals and legumes, which is 5.9 percent less than in 2013, said the message of the Kazakh Statistics Agency Feb. 6.

"In the total amount of the harvest of cereals and legumes collected last year, proportion of wheat was 75.7 percent," the message said.

Other crops in 2014 saw an increase in the harvest. The gross harvest of oilseeds increased by 3.3 percent, potatoes - 2 percent, field vegetables - by 5.3 percent, melons - by 12.6 percent.

"The share of the North-Kazakhstan region amounted to 26.5 percent in the total production of cereals and legumes in the country, while the share of Akmola region amounted to 26.2 percent and Kostanay region amounted to 23.2 percent. The highest yield of vegetables and potatoes was harvested in Almaty region (26.9 percent and 20 percent respectively)," said the message.
