Kazakhstan's state debt increased in 2015 and as of Jan. 1, 2016, totaled 9.02 trillion Kazakh tenges ($26.6 billion) or 21.6 percent of the GDP, said a Kazakh government report issued May 19.
The country's state debt amounted to 5.614 trillion tenges in early 2014, which is 27.6 percent more than in the previous year.
In 2015, Kazakhstan ranked 12th among 140 countries on the general state debt sub-index of the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Index 2015-2016.
As of May 19, 2016, Kazakhstan's state debt is 9.21 trillion tenges.
