Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed bilateral cooperation and key issues of the international agenda within the meeting in Astana on Feb. 27, the presidential press-service reported.
Kazakh president noted that the two countries have relations of high trust and understanding and that the Eurasian economic union which joins Russia and Kazakhstan together is a promising organization for all of its participants.
Nazarbayev also stressed that Kazakhstan and Russia have the same position on the international agenda and will make every effort to reach common goals in the framework of the UN Security Council.
Putin, in turn, thanked his Kazakh counterpart for the organization of the Astana talks to resolve the Syrian conflict, and noted that Kazakhstan played a positive role in this process.
"A mechanism for monitoring the Syrian ceasefire has been established. It is the most important thing. It created a basis to resume the Geneva talks," Putin said.
Putin also noted that Kazakhstan is one of the key economic partners of Russia and urged to increase economic cooperation within integration processes. The president of Russia expressed hope for support of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in dealing with global issues.
The presidents also discussed further aspects of Eurasian integration and the prospects for cooperation in the economic sphere.
