Gross output in Kazakhstan’s agriculture amounted to 6.3 trillion tenge ($15.1 billion) in 2020, which is 5.6 percent more than in 2019, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Omarov noted that in a positive growth trend was observed in almost all agriculture sectors of the country. The gross output increase in Kazakhstan was the largest among the countries of Eurasian Economic Union. The manufacturing of food items also went up by 4 percent.
The minister said that priority tasks have been identified for the further development of the agriculture industry in Kazakhstan:
- saturation of the domestic market with foodstuffs by more than 80 percent;
- for a stable increase in the income of 1 million rural residents;
- to increase labor productivity by 2.5 times;
- to increase the export of processed products by 2 times.
To solve the problem of saturating the domestic market with food products of Kazakh production, the ministry identified products the import of which is to be reduced. These are poultry meat, sausages, cheeses and cottage cheese, apples, sugar and fish.
