Petrochemical output to be boosted further in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry is taking measures on the reorientation of the oil and gas sector from raw material extraction to the manufacturing of products with high added value - the development of high value-added petrochemical industry, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

In his address to the people of Kazakhstan dated September 1, 2020, President Kassym Jomart Tokayev set the task of making the country’s western regions into centers of investments attraction for the construction of petrochemical complexes, as well as the development of petrochemistry and gas processing of high conversions, Nogayev said.

He also noted that in connection with the commissioning of new enterprises and an increase in the volume of aromatic hydrocarbons, oils, and polypropylene production by the existing factories, the output of petrochemical products increases every year.

"Over the past 4 years (2016-2020), the volume of production increased by four times and amounted to 360,000 tons annual. Currently, five refineries for the production of lubricants, polypropylene, methyl tert-butyl ether, benzene, and paraxylene with a total capacity of about 870,000 tons operate in the country,” the minister said.
