Central Asian regional hub on climate change may be set up in Kazakhstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, proposed to set up a Central Asian regional hub on climate change, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The topic was discussed during the 30th meeting US-Kazakhstan investment forum on ’30 years of trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and the US.

Addressing the meeting, Mirzagaliyev noted that in order to develop the green technologies market, Kazakhstan has adopted a number of regulatory documents, such as the Environmental Code, the Law on Supporting the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, and the Concept for the Transition to a Green Economy.

At the same time, he proposed to set up the regional hub on climate change in Kazakhstan. He noted that Kazakhstan has prospects for the discovery of new deposits (lithium oxide, cuprous sandstones containing osmium oxide, as well as tantalum-containing ores, including associated niobium) and welcomed the opportunity to expand cooperation with the US to implement projects in mining.

Mirzagaliyev also noted that taking into consideration the leading role of US companies for manufacturing of electric cars, such as Tesla, Lucid Motors, Nikola, as well as plans of major vehicles manufacturers to switch to production of electric cars, Kazakhstan is ready to offer cooperation in construction of plants for the production of lithium-ion batteries.
