Kazakhstan plans to fully provide domestic market with locally made building materials

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 12

Kazakhstan must reach the planned capacity in 2023 to reduce import dependence and fully provide the domestic market with domestic building materials, First Vice Minister of Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairbek Uskenbaev said at a briefing in the Central Communications Service, Trend reports.

The Kazakh producers meet the demand of the domestic market for basic building materials, namely, concrete, cement, wall materials. The current design capacity of the production of valves of domestic plants is 1.9 million tons, the annual internal demand is 1.2 million tons.

However, in fact, the plants provide the domestic market with building materials only by 60 percent due to the shortage of scrap. Brick is produced by one big enterprise, 11 medium and 276 small ones. But they also cover only 62 percent of the needs within the country although last year we increased the production volume by almost two times.

"There is also an increase in the import of bricks," Uskenbaev said. "This is connected with a sharp increase in consumption in the domestic market. It is planned to increase the production volume to 440 million units per year till late 2022 to increase the share of domestic production."

"The ministry adopted the programs for the development of the construction industry for 2021-2025 to reduce import dependence and prevent sharp fluctuations in prices for building materials," the first vice-minister added.

"We fully analyzed the need for building materials for the next five years," Uskenbaev said. "First of all, imported materials were allocated. Some 22 projects worth 360 billion tenge ($839.5 million) were prepared upon them."

"We plan to build these plants during 2021-2022 and reach the planned capacity to reduce import dependence in 2023 and fully provide the domestic market with domestic building materials," Uskenbaev added.
