Trend:
Kazakhstan's gold and currency reserves amounted to $35.6 billion in September 2021, having decreased by $1.2 billion compared to August 2021, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) Aliya Moldabekova said, Trend reports.
“The decrease in reserves was mainly caused by a decrease in the value of the gold portfolio by $800 million against the background of a 4.6 percent fall in the precious metal price, from $1,814 to $1,731 per ounce, as a result of higher Treasury bond yields and the strengthening of the US dollar,” Moldabekova said.
Assets in freely convertible currency decreased by $446 million mainly due to a decrease in balances on correspondent accounts of second-tier banks, as well as the payment of the state debt of Kazakhstan, which amounted to $95 million in September.
