BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, 2 million tons of wheat and meslin worth $592.3 million were exported from Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to Energyprom.kz monitoring agency.

In terms of volume, the growth amounted to 64 percent, in value terms - 2.1 times.

Most of the deliveries fell on countries of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), 1.3 million tons of products - 43.9 percent more than a year earlier. Most of them fell on Uzbekistan (874,100 tons), Tajikistan (175,800 tons) and Turkmenistan (149,500 tons).

A total of 744,700 tons of wheat were sent to other countries that are not members of the CIS, which is 2.2 times more than a year earlier, with Iran leading the way, in terms of imports from Kazakhstan, 358,400 tons, an annual growth of 3.9 times. The TOP-3 countries also included Afghanistan (227,400 tons) and Italy (110,100 tons).

The prices of wheat export supplies increased by 9.2 percent at the end of March 2022 in a month, by 12.1 percent since the beginning of the year and by 32.1 percent in a year.

Prices for CIS countries increased by 7.9 percent, including in monthly dynamics, and for other countries - by 11.8 percent.

Prices for the CIS countries increased by 34.7 percent on annual basis, for the rest - by 23.7 percent.

The average cost of wheat from producers amounted to 123,700 tenge ($287.6) per ton, durum wheat cost 188,400 tenge ($438.1) per ton, other – 121,700 tenge ($283) in April 2022.

The highest price for wheat in Kazakh regions was recorded in Kostanay region – 132,100 tenge ($307.2) per ton and followed by Akmola (130,700 tenge - $303.9) and North Kazakhstan (118,600 tenge - $275.8).

The gross harvest of winter and spring wheat in country amounted to 11.8 million tons in 2021, which is 17.1 percent less than a year earlier.

Considering the region, most wheat was traditionally harvested in Akmola region - 3.4 million tons, 18.7 percent less than for the year. The top three also included North Kazakhstan (2.8 million tons, 15.1 percent less for the year) and Kostanay (2.6 million tons, 25.1 percent less for the year) regions.

The yield in 2021 was 9.3 centners per hectare (center/ha). The highest rates were observed in East Kazakhstan (15.9 center/ha), Almaty (15.7 center/ha) and Pavlodar (11.8 center/ha) regions. In the leading wheat harvesting regions, the yield was lower: in Akmola - 8.7 center/ha, in North Kazakhstan - 11.5 center/ha, in Kostanay - 7.2 center/ha.

According to preliminary forecasts of Kazakh Grain Union, the harvest will be average 12.5 - 13 million tons of wheat, this year. This is a standard level for Kazakhstan, which allows country to export almost half.
