BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. Kazakhstan’s National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna needs to work out the details of financing the project on laying a fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, Alikhan Smailov, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

“Samruk-Kazyna was instructed to work out the financing of the project on laying fiber-optic communication lines along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan before 10 March. This work needs to be accelerated. The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry should take these issues under special control”, the prime minister added.

He also said that it is necessary to develop and adopt a road map by 1 March, which will enable the country to transform into a digital regional hub.

Smailov also highlighted that timely completion of construction and launch of related data processing centers will allow accumulating resources of cross-border highways, ensuring the processing of expected transit traffic from 3 percent to 8 percent of the global data flow.

Earlier, “Kazakhtelecom” and “AzerTelecom” signed an "Agreement on the terms of cooperation" within the framework of the project on laying a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. The agreement is the essential document of the strategic partnership and defines the main terms of cooperation between the two companies within the framework of the previously signed memorandum.
