BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Kazakhstan has around 3.8 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, Arman Kasenov, Deputy Chairman for Marketing of the Board of QazaqGaz (national gas company), said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

The company official added that based on the annual consumption of 25 billion cubic meters, the reserves will be sufficient for a century. Kasenov noted that Kazakhstan possesses sufficient amounts of gas, however, certain challenges remain.

The key issue the company is currently facing is the lack of gas processing power, which prevents the gas subsoil users from refining natural gas to commercial gas. Consequently, this leads to the ineffective use of gas deposits.

He concluded by noting that the government is working out measures to alleviate the problem.

Currently, one of Kazakhstan’s priorities is to satisfy domestic gas demand. To do this, the government is working on increasing gas supply to the regions. Latest reports suggest that this indicator is currently at 59 percent of the total population, which is equivalent to 11.6 million people.
