Cheney visit to Kazakhstan concluded

(AKI Press) - The visit of Richard Cheney, Vice President of the United States, to Kazakhstan has been concluded on May 6, 2006, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"The plane with the US VP aboard departed from the airport of Astana today at 10 AM. Richard Cheney flew to Croatia," - the US embassy to RK said
Before his departure Mr. Cheney met representatives of the Kazakhstani opposition and leaders of youth movements of the republic.

Mr. Cheney paid his first official visit to Kazakhstan on 5 - 6 May. Negotiations between Mr. Cheney Nursultan Nazarbaev, President of Kazakhstan, and between the US and Kazakhstani delegations were held on Friday in Astana. During the meeting bilateral energy relations, ensuring security, commercial and economic co-operation were discussed. The sides exchanged their views on geopolitical situation in Central Asia,

regional integration, processes in the Caspian basin and on Eurasian space.

A number of bilateral documents were inked in Astana last night as a result of the talks. In particular, an amendment to the Agreement between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of RK and the US Defense Department on liquidation of the infrastructure of the weapons of mass destruction was passed. Besides, an Executive Agreement between the Ministry of Finance of RK and the US Energy Secretariat on co-operation in prevention of illegal traffic in nuclear materials and a memorandum on mutual understanding between the governments of RK and USA on Kazakh-American economic development program were signed.
