Science Committee to be created at Kazakhstan's Ministry of Science and Education

(Kazakhstan today) - A Science Committee is going to be created in the Ministry of Science and Education in the nearest future. Danial Akhmetov, Prime Minister of RK, has stated this at a today's meeting.

"According to a new structure of management and financing of science a Science Committee is going to be created in the Ministry of Science and Education in the nearest future by a government order," - government press service says, reports Trend.

The new committee, in particular, will coordinate fundamental studies.

The today's meeting was dedicated to development of biology and biotechnological sciences. Heads of the country's leading scientific centres have acquainted the head of government with priorities of their activities. In particular, activities of two scientific institutions have been reviewed - the National Centre of Biotechnologies of RK and the Centre of Biological Sciences, on the basis of which studies on such programmes as "Development of Modern Technologies for the Formation of a Biotechnological Cluster in RK for 2006-2008" and "Biological Bases for Creation of Science Intensive Technologies, Agriculture, and Environment Protection" are carried out.

According to Mr. Akhmetov, the government will annually allocate big resources for the development of this area. 649 million KZT are provided by the budget for the studies in fundamental sciences, 886 million KZT will be allocated in the applied research. In general the total budget for the development of biotechnologies will amount to 2 billion KZT.

The Prime Minister has noted a necessity of developing new sorts of plants, including cereals, and breeding new species of cattle, on the eve of Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organisation.
