Kazakhstan, Russia to sign agreement on strategic railway co-operation

(gazeta.kz) - Participants of the two-day international regional business forum are planning to sign an Almaty memorandum "On Strategic Partnership Development No. 1520", besides, OJSC "Russian Railways" and JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" are going to conclude an agreement on joint development of transit container shipments by international transport corridors, reports Trend.

These documents are supposed to "recognise the unity of interests and a common strategy on achievement of a traffic growth by means of improving services of the national economies and transit," Boris Lapidus, Senior VP of Russian Railways, told journalists during the forum. He also stressed that Almaty was the most promising point in Central Asia "from the point of view of the cargo flows and quality improvement."

More than 300 delegates participate in the forum - heads of railway companies, big investors, suppliers of railway technique and services, representatives of shippers, bankers and businessmen interested in the development of 1,520 mm railways, technical rearmament of the infrastructure, introduction of modern quality standards in the logistical services for industries.

More than 20 different events, business talks, and informal meetings were planned at the conference.

"It is a forum of industrialists interested in manufacturing, technological equipment, and IT system for the railway transport management... We even call it the first regional forum that opens a series of such forums. The next one will take in one of Western regions," - Mr. Lapidus said adding that "the issue has not been resolved so far."
