Kazakhstan, Iran regard possibility of building grain terminal in Amirabad

(gazeta.kz) - Kazakhstan and Iran regard a possibility of joint construction of a grain terminal in the Iranian port of Amirabad in 2008. Serik Akhmetov, Minister of Transport and Communications of RK, made such statement Thursday during the 8th meeting of the Kazakh-Iranian intergovernmental commission for commercial, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural co-operation, Kazakhstan Today correspondent reports.

"The commission made orders to corresponding ministries and other authorities to regard a possibility of joint construction of a grain terminal in the Iranian port of Amirabad in 2008," - a press release circulated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of RK, says.

In general, according to the Minister the total volume of the Kazakhstani grain export to Iran will reach 200 thousand tonnes, reports Trend.

"We plan to supply around 150 thousand tonnes only through Aktau port to Iran next year," - the Minister of Transport and Communications of RK.

"We enter a new phase of the commercial and economic relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran," - he stressed.

According to him, next year the commodity turnover between the two states will reach $1.8 billion. In 2007 it will grow to $2 billion.
