Nine Kyrgyz die in hajj to Mecca in 2008
"Nine citizens of Kyrgyzstan died while performing hajj to Mecca this year," Murataly aji Jumanov, head of the Kyrgyz Muslim Spiritual Leadership said at the news conference in Bishkek Friday.
All but 1 out of the nine died with natural death, while the one died in a car accident. "All the departed are buried in the holy places by approbation of their relatives and close ones," the spiritual leader said.
The total number of hajj pilgrims in 2008 reached 4,500 persons, 55 percent of which are males. Some 23 percent of the pilgrims are under 40 years old, reported 24.kg.
