Otunbayeva warns of further violence in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan's newly inaugurated President Roza Otunbayeva said on Monday that there are still risks of further violence in her country.

There may be other outbursts of unrest in Kyrgyzstan, said Otunbayeva during a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Kazakhstan on the sidelines of a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), Xinhua reported.

Otunbayeva was sworn in as the violence-hit country's caretaker president on July 3 and will serve until Dec. 31, 2011.

According to the health authorities, over 290 people were killed and over 2,000 injured during the violence last month in southern Kyrgyzstan, which followed an earlier wave of riots starting in April with a revolt that ousted former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
