The foreign ministers of Germany and France are to personally visit this Friday the scene of bloody ethnic fighting in Kyrgyzstan that killed an estimated 2,000 people, an aide said in Berlin, DPA reported.

They are also to meet with Kyrgyzstan's acting president Rosa Otunbayeva, said German Foreign Ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke on Monday.

The German minister, Guido Westerwelle, and his French counterpart, Bernard Kouchner, will visit the southern city of Osh, as part of a fact-finding tour before the European Union decides on aid requests.

Ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz warred with one another in Osh in June after a popular uprising toppled authoritarian president Kurmanbek Bakiyev.

Westerwelle's trip follows a visit to Russia in the company of Chancellor Angela Merkel beginning Wednesday. They are to attend government-to-government talks in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

The German minister is also to visit Uzbekistan, arriving Thursday. He will spend Saturday in Almaty, Kazakhstan at an informal meeting of ministers arranged by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
