Imported goods will be checked for radioactivity at all customs posts in Kyrgyzstan, Raja Beishenkulova, head of the Radioactive Safety Department under the Department for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, told 24.kg news agency.
Beishenkulova said that portal monitors will be installed at the border points. They will determine the background radiation of goods, packaging and transport.
"The employees of the State Customs Service will carry out checking. If indicators of a car, goods or a person deviate from the norm, more thorough examination will be made in special place. If customs officers doubt, they can invite representatives of the Department for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, Ministry of Emergency and Environmental Protection Agency for checking. The mechanisms of control at the customs posts are being worked out at the moment," Beishenkulova said.
She noted that the Kyrgyz Government issued a corresponding decree on October 26, 2011.
