The intensification of the Central Asia's role for the EU countries contributes to the development of mutually beneficial development, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton said at Ministerial meeting in Bishkek, KyrTAG reported.

She noted the potential is observed for cooperation in such spheres as energy, trade and economy.

The EU plans to support Central Asian efforts in political and economical reforms in order to be able to strengthen the bilateral relations' potential to address challenges the sides encounter, Ashton said.

She added that while summarizing the implementation of 5-year EU strategy towards Central Asia, it is still important to further continue work on cooperation in various areas.

The EU welcomes the commitment of the Central Asian states for the principles of the World Trade Organization, Ashton noted.

The meeting of Central Asian and the European Union Foreign Ministers is being held in Bishkek on Tuesday.

Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as well as the EU's first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton are among the participants of the meeting.
