European Union allocates 6.5 mln euros to support Kyrgyzstan’s budget

The European Union transferred a 6.5 million euro grant to the Central Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic on Tuesday to support the social protection sector of the republic. The tranche will be received by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the coming days, Trend reports referring to kabar.kg.

“This is the second payment of 26 million euros allocated by the EU for the budget support program to help the Kyrgyz Government implement reforms in the field of social protection. The first payment of 4.25 million euros was made at the beginning of 2016. The final payment under the program is expected at the end of 2019,” the European Union office in the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The main objective of the support from the European Union is to expand the range and quality of social services, especially for children from risk groups, in the implementation of state policies for the protection of children, as well as ensuring their continuity.

In addition, as a supplement to budget support, the European Union provides consulting and technical assistance, and also trains employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.
