BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 7. Kyrgyzstan has a fairly large renewable energy potential, including solar energy, geothermal and wind energy, Trend reports via International Energy Agency (IEA).

"A number of solar and wind projects are being planned for implementation, but the country lacks rules for integration of new variable capacity additions to the national power system," the agency says.

Notably, the National Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan for 2018-2040 sets a target of the share of renewables to be at least 10 percent of the country's total energy balance.

However, despite the huge potential, the practical usage of renewable energy sources (RES) is now negligible in Kyrgyzstan, making up less than 1 percent of the nation's energy balance.
