BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 25. Kyrgyzstan must continue taking efforts to improve the investment climate in the next year, Trend reports citing the Transmission report 2022-2023 of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

According to the EBRD, the Kyrgyz government should adopt measures to enhance access to electricity and other essential infrastructure, liberalize the labor market (ease restrictions on the hiring of foreigners) and streamline the licensing, permits, and inspection systems.

The Bank suggests, that the investment in agriculture could be facilitated by establishing “free agricultural zones” to overcome legal restrictions on the foreign ownership of land.

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan's National Statistical Committee reported that the foreign direct investment (FDI) in Kyrgyzstan almost doubled in the first half of 2022 over the same period in 2021 ($321.2 million) - up to $628 million.
